Escape the IT Corridor: 5 Beginner-Friendly Treks Near Hyderabad

Swap screen time for green time. Five easy treks near Hyderabad for first-timers, plus a simple checklist so your first group trek goes smoothly.

Five days of stand-ups, sprints and screens. By Saturday, your eyes need something green and your lungs need air that isn't air-conditioned. The good news: you don't have to go far from Hyderabad to find it.

1. Khajaguda Hills — the city escape

Right next to Gachibowli and Manikonda, these rocky hills are perfect for a short sunrise or sunset climb. No long drive, no special gear — just good shoes and a friend.

2. Ananthagiri Hills — the forest walk

Near Vikarabad, roughly a two-hour drive from the city, Ananthagiri's forest trails are lush and especially beautiful after the monsoon. Gentle paths make it a great first trek.

3. Bhongir Fort — the rock climb

A fort perched on a giant rock, about an hour or so from Hyderabad. The climb is short but steep in places, and the view from the top is worth every step.

4. Mallela Theertham — the waterfall reward

Deep in the Nallamala forests, this waterfall makes for a longer day trip. The final stretch involves a lot of steps down (and back up), so pace yourself — and enjoy the cool water at the bottom.

5. Pandavula Gutta — the history trek

A longer drive, but a unique reward: rock formations with ancient rock paintings. Perfect for the group that wants a story to tell, not just a summit photo.

Strangers on the way up. Friends by the time you come down.

Beginner trek checklist

  • Start early to beat the heat — Hyderabad afternoons can be brutal.
  • Carry more water than you think you need, plus a few snacks.
  • Wear shoes with good grip; rocks get slippery.
  • Check weather, timings and access before you go — they change with the season.
  • Go with a group, tell someone your plan and leave no trash behind.
