Bored in Hyderabad? 10 Weekend Plans That Aren't Another Mall
Swap the mall-and-multiplex routine for lakesides, rocky sunsets, craft villages and cosy cafés. Ten fresh ideas for your next Hyderabad weekend.

Friday evening, Hyderabad. The group chat lights up with the same question as every week: 'So… what's the plan?' And, as every week, it ends with the same mall, the same food court and the same movie nobody really wanted to watch.
This city deserves better weekends. Between the old-city heritage, the rocky hills, the lakes and a fast-growing café culture, Hyderabad has far more to offer than air-conditioned corridors. Here are ten plans to break the routine.
1. Catch the sunset at Durgam Cheruvu
The 'secret lake' in the middle of the IT corridor is anything but secret now — and the evening walk around it, with the cable bridge lighting up, is one of the city's most relaxing hours. Go just before sunset and stay for the lights.
2. Wander Shilparamam's craft village
Right in Madhapur, Shilparamam celebrates traditional Indian arts and crafts. Browse handloom stalls, watch artisans at work and pick up something handmade instead of something mass-produced.
3. Climb Khajaguda's rocks
Hyderabad's ancient granite formations are part of what makes the city unique. The Khajaguda hills near Gachibowli make for an easy morning scramble with a view of the skyline — no long drive needed.
4. Do the old city on foot
Charminar, the bangle lanes of Laad Bazaar, a plate of something fried and a cup of Irani chai. Go early on a weekend morning, before the crowds, and walk slowly.
5. Spend an afternoon at a cultural space
Spaces like Lamakaan in Banjara Hills host plays, talks, film screenings and open mics. It's a great way to discover something new — and to be around people who are curious too.
6. Join a jamming session
You don't need to be in a band to make music with people. Open jamming sessions — a few guitars, a cajón and anyone who wants to sing — are one of the warmest ways to spend an evening and meet new friends.
7. Try a coffee rave
Daytime dance parties fuelled by coffee instead of alcohol are popping up around the world. Great music, great energy, and you're home before midnight with a clear head the next morning.
8. Go on a group day trek
Ananthagiri Hills and Bhongir Fort are both within a comfortable day trip of the city. Going with a group turns a hike into a bonding experience — and makes the drive back far more fun.
9. Laugh at a stand-up night
Hyderabad's comedy scene has grown fast. A small, intimate stand-up night is the quickest stress reset there is — come solo, leave having laughed with a room full of strangers.
10. Find your 'third place'
Sociologists call it the 'third place' — somewhere that isn't home or work where you can simply be around people. A garden café where you can read, sip, meet a French bulldog and maybe strike up a conversation counts.
The best weekends aren't the most expensive ones. They're the ones where you meet someone new.
That's exactly what we're building at Project Soulfulness in Madhapur — a garden café and community space with coffee, music, comedy, pets and treks under one roof. Our first events are launching soon, so drop us a line and we'll let you know when the calendar opens.
